Free lead testing in blood for people living in Saline County being provided by the Salina-Saline County Health Department starting 3 to 6 p.m. on July 13, 2011 at the department, 1125 West Elm Street.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) previously suggested to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that an area of the said country bordering the battery plant of Exide Technologies be delegated as nonattainment for the EPA lead air quality measure.
The free lead testing in blood is for people who live or work in the nonattainment area and to their family members as well. That surface area is bounded on the east near Ohio Street, north by Schilling Road, west by Ninth Street, and south by Berg Road (close to Waterwell Road). The total surface area is less than a square mile, agreeing to KDHE.
Lead-acid batteries for lawn and garden, marine, and automotive uses was manufactured by Exide Technologies. The facility dissolves lead as break up of the battery manufacturing procedure.
